The Verona Collection

Inspired by a stroll through Verona Italy during sunrise, the Verona Collection embraces the juxtaposition of refined modernism and organic textures, turning a space into an experience full of dimensional interest and timeless diversity.  Imagine the warmth of the morning light draping effortlessly over stone and wood surfaces … envision shadows outlining natural textures amidst vast spaces … notice the sun's masterful brush strokes reflecting complex details, unseen until now.  This moment in time, and the feeling that it evokes, informs the textural palette of the woven textiles in the Verona Collection. 

Diago

Dimensional texture and the intricate balance of spacious architecture in combination with refined details, builds the foundation of this geometric pattern.  Simplicity, structure, rhythm, and a touch of light reflectance makes this a highly sophisticated and modern textile.  With the crispness of ceramic, its colors have the versatility of tile.

Busmanti

Where structure and organics mingle, Busmanti's elegant form nurtures duelling textural worlds.  With a consistent balance of structure and curvature, this textile brings a sense of poise and calm to one's space.  The colors of Busmanti create a delicate depth with its dimensional weave.

Gridlock

Pattern, weave, and color design for Pallas Textiles.  With an emphasis on natural building materials such as Travertine stone, Glissade, and Rattan as inspiration, these vertical fabrics lend a soft and textured feel to any space. 

Studio Z teamed up with Izzy Design to create the Audrey Chair, shown here at Neocon.  The custom Jacqform™ woven fabric parts contain a layer of soft cushioning creating form specific shape.  Woven-in seams and channels allow for weights to be added, and the Audrey-look is simply draped over the chair form for a snug fit.  Exposed and woven seams are laser cut for a finished and clean aesthetic.  Simple construction, stitch free, precise application for furniture.

This custom chair came to life through the early phases of development and testing of Studio Z's Jacqform™ technique.  Interchangeable fabric parts are easily switched out thanks to the woven pocket construction and the precise design control this process is capable of.  With control over the entire loom width pattern, stitch-free seams, and its two layer woven construction, this experimental piece opens eyes to the possibilities present when using this Jacqform technology.

The Vista program conceived and designed by Studio Z was supplied and supported by the late Mastercraft/GuildThreeSixty textile supplier.  Vista was an innovative approach to supporting the Textile Jobber in meeting the A&D market demand for custom color and pattern in vertical surface.

The key Textile Jobbers in the Contract Industry were supplied with two VISTA boxes.  One box contained a set of original Studio Z patterns, production ready and sampled in two colors: one on a light warp and one on a dark warp.  This box also contained a Vista book, giving a color key based on the weaves used in each pattern.  All the patterns were woven in a pre-selected group of six weaves.  The second box was a color box, containing a full range of color options that could be applied to any of the patterns.  The color box contained woven swatches, using the preselected weaves on a set of 12 production ready warps and 50 production ready fill colors.

This concept piece emphasizes customization and adaptability.  Transformable for the office or home to accommodate a space's needs and capacity.  The idea encourages one to spread out, entertain, or lay out and take a well deserved nap.

Woven 1950's European Scenes 

Anna Zaharakos has translated her father's vintage photography into woven textiles, creating an elegant series of wall hangings. Photographs by Joal Cronenwett feature the European countryside of the 1950's captured with a classic Rolleiflex camera.  After World War II, newlyweds Joal and Laura Cronenwett were stationed in Stuttgart Germany with the US Army reconstruction effort.  Time off allowed the two young architects to travel the countryside and collect these stunning European scenes.
